The Central West Police Commander James Katonyerera has ordered the transfer of more than 500 police officers who have stayed in one post for more than five years.

According to Mr Katonyerera’s order sent to seven districts in the central region.

The Central West Police spokesman, Mr Philip Mukasa, confirmed the transfers, saying they take immediate effect.

“Many officers had overstayed in one area which had made execution of their duties difficult. You find that some had married in the same area and they got challenges dealing with cases in which their relatives were involved,” Mr Mukasa said.

The Central West region covers Mpigi, Gomba, Mityana, Kyankwanzi, Butambala, Mubende and Kiboga Districts.
Mr Mukasa said regular transfers also minimise complacency and corruption among officers.

“We were getting cases of corruption or influence peddling and we found out that some of these cases were as a result of the officers’ close relationships with the community members. This can only be reduced by constant transfer of officers from one area to another,” he said.
