ENTEBBE- Up to 25 million children with special needs in Uganda and Tanzania will, in the coming year, receive assistance from the Lions Club Uganda, Mr Venie Tinkumanya, the new Lions Club International District 411B governor (Uganda and Tanzania), has said.

Mr Tinkumanya was speaking during a meeting at Entebbe Children’s Welfare School on Tuesday.

The meeting aimed at transforming lives of children with special needs through screening to check for those who might be visually impaired and enabling others walk better.

Tinkumanya further stated that the club would help alleviate hunger and starvation among children and adults and also promote environmental conservation, among other strategies.

Ms Lillian Tumuhilire, the caretaker of the children’s welfare centre, said: “We have up to 65 pupils with different special needs and parents who bring them here are financially incapacitated, but we are grateful of the support we are getting from the Lions Club.”

Mr Tinkumanya, who has just returned from a 21-day training in Fukuoka, Japan said among the issues discussed at the convention was the inclusion of South Sudan as part of district 411B.

“We discussed South Sudan’s situation and are planning in the near future to make it part of the district,” he said.
Tinkumanya further urged all Ugandans and Tanzanians to embark on humanitarian projects that impact on society.
