Cholera kills two in Nebbi

NEBBI.

Two people have died and 34 cases registered following an outbreak of cholera in Nebbi District.

According to Dr Jakor Oryema, the Nebbi District health officer, three sub-counties, including Erussi, Parombo and Panyimur have been affected. The outbreak was first diagnosed from a Congolese.

Dr Jakor said they are registering new cases with the latest coming from Die Monday.

Authorities have issued guidelines to schools, advising that they provide water and detergent for washing hands as well as ensuring that school environment are kept clean. Nebbi last suffered a cholera outbreak in 2013 killing about 80 people.

During the attack, Medicines San Frontiers (doctors without borders), an international NGO that created an isolation camp at Dei Landing Site in Panyimur Sub-county to contain the outbreak.
