Phase 11 of the project includes upgrading the floor, walling, mechanical, electrical and Information Technology services, and is to cost another Shs1 billion.
Church of Uganda members plan to walk and run as part of the arrangements to raise funds for the completion of rehabilitation of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe.
The church has organised a charity walk for March 30 to raise Shs200 million required to complete the first phase of the roofing dubbed the ‘Ttegula Project’.
In August 2011, Namirembe Diocese signed a contract with a local construction firm for roof repairs of the Cathedral, a job expected to cost about Shs1.5 billion.
Phase 11 of the project includes upgrading the floor, walling, mechanical, electrical and Information Technology services, and is to cost another Shs1 billion.
Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira of Namirembe Diocese, who is expected to lead the walk, said believers will walk and or run a distance of five to 10 kilometers through Kampala streets.
“Ttegula Project still has a balance of more than Shs200 million needed to complete Phase I. The charity will be on March 30 and registration is going on at the dean’s office; Namirembe Cathedral, diocesan offices and All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero where each participant is required to pay 10,000,” he said.
He said the diocese plans to embark on Phase 11 as soon as Phase 1 is complete.
The Bishop appealed to members for more support and fulfilment of pledges.
