A boda boda cyclist was killed in an accident on Kyaggwe Road in Kampala yesterday afternoon when a speeding truck ran over him.

Eyewitnesses said the driver failed to control the truck and the steep nature of the road forced him to jump out of the vehicle, leaving it to run unmanned.

“I saw the truck speeding wildly, we shouted at our colleagues to run for their dear lives,” said Mr Muzafaru Basajjabaka.

Police account
“One of our colleagues did not hear our shout and yet the truck was close to him and it knocked him.” he said.
The operation commander Kampala North, Mr Sam Omala, said Sunday Nsubuga, a resident of Lungujja II Gwafu Zone, had his body parts taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital Mortuary.

“The truck was heading to Congo; however we have not been able to arrest the driver and the turn-boy who had already escaped,” Mr Omala said.

He added that the trailer’s brakes failed and it rammed into two stationary vehicles before running over Nsubuga and cutting him into half.

He said the seal of the trailer had already been broken in the chaos as people prepared to loot.

However, police intervened and stopped them from off-loading shoes that were in the truck.
