KAMPALA. A Kampala City businessman Suleiman Kabangala Mbuga has been charged before Makindye magistrate’s court with assaulting and causing bodily harm to his partner Leila Kayondo, a local musician.

Mr Mbuga who had spent two nights at Kabalagala Police Station appeared before chief magistrate Richard Mafabi on Monday and denied the charges against.
He was then granted a non- cash bail of Shs5 million.
However, state prosecutor Ms Happiness Ainebyona informed court that inquiries into the matter were complete and she was ready to commence hearing but the complainant (Ms Kayondo) wanted to reconcile with her partner. Consequently, court ordered that Kayondo stands surety for the accused as an indication that she was ready to forgive her partner.
The magistrate then set January 8th when the two will file a memorandum of understanding with court.
Kayondo and Mbuga’s friend Walakira Zzake were also ordered to sign a bond of 10 million shillings to ensure that he returns to court for further mention of the case.

Prosecution alleges that on December 31 last year, Mbuga met Kayondo at Speke Resort in company of another man, and the two picked up a fight in which he slapped and boxed the musician.
On the night of January 1, Ms Kayondo reported an assault case against Mr Mbuga at Kabalagala Police Station. However, that night, police officers failed to trace Mr Mbuga at his home and called off the search but gave her police form III for a medical examination.

Although she went for the examination, she was annoyed with police for not arresting Mr Mbuga. She then used her social media platform and posted her bruised photos seeking help from the Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura. She accused Kabalagala police officers of conniving with her partner to defeat justice.
The IGP Kale Kayihura then ordered Mbuga’s arrest on the 1st Jan, 2016.
