Kampala. The Kampala business fraternity converged at St Stephen’s Church Kisugu to pay homage to prominent city businessman, Eria Sebunnya Bugembe popularly known as Kasiwukira.
City businessman and chairman Kwagalana Group Godfrey Kirumira asked police to mount a hunt for the killers of their colleague. Mr Kirumira also disputed the police investigations report, which said Kasiwukira was overrun by a vehicle.
“We are not satisfied with police investigations. If Kasiwukira was knocked by a car, why doesn’t police explain to us why there were no smashed particles of the car windscreen or even treads of a breaking car,” Mr Kirumira quizzed.
Police said a post mortem report indicated that Kasiwukira, a music promoter was run-over by a car on Friday morning as he jogged in the swanky neighbourhood of Muyenga.
During the requiem mass Mr Kirumira said Kasiwukira’s murderers are on the run.
“Police has to do everything in their power to make sure killers of Kasiwukira do not go scot free. As Kwagalana Group, we are going to make do everything in our reach to get answers to questions surrounding the death of our colleague,” Kirumira told mourners.
Kwagalana Group is a grouping of wealthy Kampala businessmen. Mr Kirumira took exception to reports in a local vernacular newspaper which reported that Kasiwukira was killed by his fellow businessmen.
“Where do they get all that? That story stirred emotions. Well it might be true but unless investigations have been concluded, media should stop concocting stories just for sales.”
Kirumira said Kasiwukira worried more about high blood pressure as a potential cause of his death. “All of a sudden, he is killed, it leaves us wondering, are we all safe? Of course we can’t start moving with bodyguards everywhere we go, but something needs to be done,” Kirumira said.
Mr Kirumira also lashed out at police for bundling Kasiwukira’s body on the police patrol pick-up as it was removed from the accident scene to Mulago hospital.
The mass was attended by the inconsolable bereaved Kasiwukira’s family members, Buganda Prince Daudi Kintu Wasajja, the Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and who-so-who among Kampala’s businessmen. Throughout out the mass, mourners celebrated the good deeds of the deceased.
Mr Mayiga thanked Kirumira for pointing out the flaws of police. He said police take long to nab such killers as if they live on planet Mars or on the moon.
Mr Herman Kalungi, son of the late Kasiwukira, described the deceased as an honest and impartial father. “He treated all of us, seven children equally. He made sure we got anything we wanted at any time. After finishing school, he called us to work with him. Daddy always told us not to look at his achievements but to work harder to achieve more than he has achieved,” Kalungi eulogised.
