Col Buturo replaces Maj Gen Mugira as Luwero Industries boss

Maj Gen James Mugira has been replaced by Brigadier Butuuro

President Yoweri Kaguta has promoted Col Octavius Butuuro to the rank of Brigadier and appointed him the General Manager of Luwero Industries Ltd.

Brig Butuuro has in the past served in senior positions as Deputy Director of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, Uganda’s Defence Advisor in Rwanda and lately, the Defence Attaché in the Republic of the Sudan in Khartoum.

He has replaced Maj Gen James Mugira who, according to the army statement issued on Thursday,  “successfully revamped Luwero Industries”.

Gen Mugira was given extra responsibilities and appointed Managing Director National Enterprises Corporation (NEC), the business arm of the army. Luwero Industries is a subsidiary of NEC.

“Gen Mugira could therefore not hold two positions as MD [Managing Director] for both the holding company and its subsidiary,” Brig Richard Karemire said in the statement.

Gen Mugira took over the management of Luwero Industries from Mrs Jacqueline Mbabazi, the wife of former Presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi in January 2012, after three a years tenure as military intelligence boss.

“This development now provides Gen Mugira with time to deal with strategic planning and also supervise six subsidiaries and joint ventures that fall under NEC,” Brig Karemire said.
