KAMPALA.

Immigration Control under the ministry of Internal Affairs has summoned Shell and Bolton International to explain its employment policy.

The firm is suspected to be contravening Ugandan laws, which limit the employment of expatriates to key positions.

A letter written and signed by the commissioner for Immigration Anthony Namara, summoned management of Shell and Bolton to present a list of expatriate employee detailing their work permits and employment letter.

“As you may be aware the department of immigration control is charged with the duty of ensuring that foreign expatriates …. obtain and work on paper facilities as per the law. In exercise of the above function, I do invite you for a meeting scheduled Tuesday 28 at 9am at the department’s boardroom,” Mr Namara’s letter reads in part.

“Kindly bring along all the list of foreign employee of the company and their appointment letters,” Mr Namara stated.
The summon follows a media advert on Monday 20 where Shell and Bolton International sought to employee an administrative assistant of Indian, Philipino or ‘white’ origin.
