A 25-old-man died after collapsing during a marathon that was part of police recruitment exercise in Masaka Town.
The southern Regional police spokesperson Noah Sserunjogi said Nicholas Ngobya, a Computer Engineering graduate from Kampala International University, collapsed on Tuesday after complaining of a muscle-pull. Mr Sserunjogi said he was taken to the Police Barracks Health Centre for treatment before returning to his home at Kirumba village. However, the following day Ngobya developed body pains and died before he could be taken to hospital.
He however added that police is investigating the cause of Ngobya’s death.
One of Ngobya’s relatives Joseph Kizito says that although the deceased was able to walk on his own on Thursday, he started complaining of chest pain that night.
He also reportedly complained of pain in his legs before he passed away.
Mr Kizito says that Ngobya had decided to seek employment in the police after his driving school business venture failed to succeed.
Ngobya is the second person to die in the recruitment exercise which ended on Thursday.
On Tuesday this week, Steven Bwampu collapsed and died in Fort Portal, Kabarole district after undergoing the tough physical drills expected of any police recruit.
