Ex-UNRA spokesperson freed on bail following corruption charges

The Anti-Corruption court has released on bail the former Corporate and Communications Manager of Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Mr Dan Alinange who

Court summons ex-UNRA officer over corruption

According to the summons issued by the Chief Magistrate, Ms Agnes Alum, Mr Alinange is wanted in court not later than September 20 to plead to the corruption charges

and abuse of office in connection to the ground breaking ceremony of the Kampala Northern Bypass Road.

The presiding magistrate Benjamin Lochomin granted Mr Alinange a cash bail of Shs5 million after finding his sureties substantial.

"I have considered the letters presented by the two sureties, copies of the power bills have been presented and I find all the credentials substantial. I grant you a cash bail of Shs5 million and not cash to the sureties," Mr Lochomin ruled.

Prosecution alleges that Mr Alinange on February 19, 2015 in Kampala, fraudulently obtained a financial benefit for himself when he asked Mota Engil, a road construction company for Shs32 million.

The money in question that the prosecution alleges that Mr Alinange received was towards the ground breaking ceremony of the Kampala Northern by pass Road project which road was being constructed by Mota Engil.

It is alleged that Mr Alinange received the money through his company called AK Communications Ltd in which he is the director and purported that the said company had been contracted by UNRA to manage the ceremony whereas not.

In the second count of abuse of office, Mr Alinange is accused of having arbitrary abused the office of his employer, UNRA when he wrote a letter to Mota Engil and corruptly convinced the company to pay Shs32 million to his private company AK Communications Ltd, purporting to have been contracted by UNRA to manage Kampala Northern by pass ground breaking ceremony whereas not.

However he denied all the charges that were read to him. The case was adjourned to November 7 for further mention.
