Court fines four men Shs14 million for smuggling ivory

  • City Hall magistrate Moses Nabende ruled that if the convicts default paying the court fines each of them will serve two years and four months jail term in Luzira prison.
  • Their sentence came after prosecution led by State attorney Pamela Orogot proved through five witnesses that the four convicts were in June this year arrested by police at Noble view Hotel in Ntinda within Kampala with the said trophies planning to smuggle them outside the country.

Court in Kampala has sentenced four men accused of smuggling Ivory to a fine of Shs14 million by after they were found guilty of illegally possessing wildlife trophies.
The four convicts included Ali Wawuse and Dickson Kweteisa, who were each ordered to pay a court fine of Shs6.5 million being at the centre of smuggling 13.5kg of elephant Ivory valued at Shs55 million.

The other two convicts; Charles Kakooza and Chris Tumumunde were each sentenced to a court fine of one million shillings.
