VIDEO: Court issues order guaranteeing victim’s anonymity in Mak sexual harassment case

High Court Judge, Lydia Mugambe, on March 5, 2018 issued a protective order in the matter of an application by a Makerere University student to preserve her anonymity during litigation about alleged sexual harassment.

The order effectively means the female student, who is suing Makerere University for failing to protect her from alleged sexual harassment shall remain anonymous for the duration of the case.

However, some lawyers say a protective order has the potential to be misused as it sets a precedent where people can hide behind the cover of anonymity to bear false witness against others.
