KAMPALA- High Court in Kampala has ordered two men to pay school fees for a six-year-old girl whose mother has failed to tell who her real father is.
The High Court registrar, Mr Henry Twinomuhwezi’s decision was prompted after one of the girl’s alleged father, Mr Charles Odongo, was dragged to court for failure to look after her.
It, however, emerged that a one Francis Kaleebi has been taking care of the girl including paying her school fees since she was born.
“Let both men pay school fees for the good of the innocent girl until results from the DNA test are disclosed,” Mr Twinomuhwezi said yesterday.
He added: “The false father will pay back all the expenses to the true one when results are out.”
Mr Kaleebi told court that the time the girl was born, he paid Shs400,000 as hospital bills and other expenses at Mengo Hospital where her mother had given birth by caesarian section.
Request for custody
Mr Kaleebi also said ever since the girl started school, he has been performing all the duties until he asked for her custody from her mother.
“I secured a school and paid fees for two terms for the young girl and in addition I sent money to her mother to pay for all school the requirements. However, I was informed by the school administrators that they had arrested a man who was claiming to be the girl’s father,” Mr Kaleebi said.
Mr Kaleebi said, when he went to the school to get the details of the imposter.
However, he failed to get enough information something which prompted him to seek help from the police who gave him Mr Odongo’s mobile number.
“In the process of communication with Mr Odongo on phone, he told me he was arrested for failing to take care of his daughter by her mother (Kuhume),” he added.
Mr Odongo told court that the confusion came after he asked for receipts of payment of first and second term before he could continue with the payment which Kuhume could not avail.
“I can only pay school fees if the girl is given to me because right now another man can come up claiming for the same child,” Mr Odongo said.
Meanwhile, despite the court’s order, the two men have vowed not to pay school fees for the young girl until the DNA results are out citing that the she might be with other fathers out there that they do not know.
