The Democratic Party has said it is ready to join other opposition political parties to front one candidate come 2016 presidential elections.
In the 2011 elections, oppositions parties had planned to have one candidate but some, including Uganda Peoples Congress and DP disagreed.
While addressing a weekly press conference at their party headquarters on Tuesday, the DP acting publicity secretary, Mr Paul Kakande, said they had started holding meetings for the presidential candidate for 2016.
“We have not decided on the person but we still invite everyone who is willing to take the post to come and register, including our current president, Mr Norbert Mao,” Mr Kakande said. He also dismissed earlier media reports that the former Vice President and MP for Busiro North, Mr Gilbert Bukenya, was their choice.
The deputy spokesperson for Forum for Democratic Change, Mr Toterebuka Bamwenda, said as a party they had not yet discussed the issue of 2016 presidential elections.
UPC president Olara Otunnu said before making any suggestion regarding the elections, they had to ensure that they are free and fair because they do not want to repeat the same mistakes of 2011.
