Darkness at Namboole as FDC votes its president

NAMBOOLE.

The opposition forum for Democratic change elections which are underway at Namboole stadium came to a standstill for over 10 minutes after electricity went off in the whole stadium on two occasions.

This left the delegates booing and mentioning names of the top party leaders as being behind the black. The alleged, the leaders wanted to rig the votes.

The situation almost turned violent but normalized after power returned after several minutes.

Campaign agents used torches to ensure nobody tampers with the ballot boxes.

The FDC party electoral commission boss Mr Dan Mugarura couldn't explain the cause of the blackout but promised a smooth exercise provided there are no more blackouts.

"We faced a small blackout but everything has returned to normal and our voting exercise is back to normal. Delegates from over 100 districts have so far finished casting their votes and we are remaining with about 27 districts", Mugarura said at around 7:40pn.

Mugarura noted that if they do not face any other power outage, the voting exercise would end by 10pm before tallying and counting of votes commenced. The winner will immediately be announced.

Meanwhile, out of the four candidates, Hon Patrick Amuriat is the only one who has finished casting his vote since his District Kumi, comes before his colleagues’. 

Founding party president Dr Kizza Besigye has just cast his vote too.
