Too much. The archbishop says believers already have enough of their own problems

KAPCHORWA.

Church of Uganda Archbishop Stanley Ntagali has urged bishops to stop burdening Christians with their needs, forgetting they too have many other responsibilities.

Instead, the archbishiop said bishops should be a ray of hope to the many Ugandans who are living in a hopeless state.

Archbishop Ntagali was speaking at the consecration and enthronement of Rev Canon Paul Kiptoo Masaba, the second Bishop of Sebei Diocese at St Peter’s Cathedral in Kapchorwa on Sunday. He asked church leaders to be good shepherds so that the hopeless can see light and life in their lives.

The function was graced by Vice President Edward Ssekandi and more than 30 clerics from Uganda, Kenya and the US.

Archbishop Ntagali told bishops not to weigh down believers with their needs because they are already heavily burdened by their families.

The archbishop called upon government to use the church as the yardstick to fight poverty at households and to fight corruption in all sectors.

He also advised bishops to be exemplary and challenged those who have lost their faith to return to church activities such as prayer meetings to renew their faith.

Bishop Masaba in his maiden speech as bishop for Sebei Diocese told Christians that his consecration means a time for renewal in the Christian faith.

“I lost my parents in 1985. I paid fees for myself by burning charcoal, selling tomatoes and sugar canes and I want to pledge to instill hard work among the clergy, fight poverty and above all, to help believers return to their spiritual roots and renew their promises in faith,” he said.

Mr Ssekandi, who represented President Museveni, handed over a new Mitsubishi Pajero to the new bishop.
