Bushenyi- The First Lady, Ms Janet Museveni, has lashed out at parents who do not care about their children, saying they are partly to blame for their future misdemeanours.

Ms Museveni, also the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, warned that such parents will face God’s wrath the day He will ask them to explain why they abandoned their parental roles.

Speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of a five-day West Ankole Diocese Mothers Union Convention in Bushenyi District on Monday, Ms Museveni said defilement has increased because parents go quiet about it so as to fetch wealth at the expense of their daughters’ lives.

“Our daughters get pregnant and give birth when their bodies are not yet ready and they eventually die while their parents are quiet. You find parents agreeing with culprits so that everything can be settled out of court. Others have not condemned abortion among their children and the country is in trouble,” Ms Museveni said.

Ms Museveni also called for a giving and sharing culture to extend God’s love to the needy. She contributed Shs5 million towards the convention activities.

Speaking at the convention, the minster for Security and Bushenyi Woman MP, Ms Mary Karooro Okurut, advised women to work together and fight domestic violence.

The Church of Uganda Mothers Union president, Ms Ruth Senyonyi, implored parents to act as good examples to their children and encouraged the Mothers’ Union members to convey the message of reconciliation to their communities and focus on financial and economic stability.
