PALLISA: The Deputy Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Mr Richard Todwong has cautioned the party supporters against over-praising the government.

Speaking as the guest of honour during the belated NRM celebrations which took place at Kibale Primary school over the weekend, Mr Todwong said that NRM supporters should as well voice out strong criticism against the party.

“The NRM party welcomes negative criticism from its members than instead over-praising it. It’s quite dangerous and scaring if the party doesn’t get negative criticism. This is the best way the party can listen and correct some of its mistakes,” Mr Todwong said.

Mr Todwong said strong criticism against the party can help to shape it into the right direction than over-praising it, adding that NRM party believes in the principles of patriotism, Pan –African, Social Economic and Democracy.

He said the NRM government since it captured power, has concerted its efforts towards fighting backwardness, diseases, poverty and ignorance.

“We treat these vices as our most enemies and we directed all our energies to address such challenges in our country,” he said.

On unemployment, Mr Todwong acknowledged the challenge, but said the government is on its feet to ensure that it creates more jobs for the overwhelming number of graduates.

“This is a serious matter and the NRM government is re-thinking and planning accordingly,” he said.

Mr Todwong urged institutions of higher learning to change from theory to practical courses like science and technology.

“The high level of unemployment to some extent is caused by the current education system, which produces more of job seekers than creators,” he said.

Mr Todwong said the government has achieved much in the health sector, but blamed the overwhelming number of patients in the health facilities to failure by residents to maintain personal hygiene and sanitation.

“Most diseases that make people to overwhelm the hospital and health centres are preventable, “he said.

Mr Todwong said government will soon carry-out audit of all firms taking contracts with government because it has come to the its attention that project delays are mostly caused by technocrats who award themselves contracts.

The LCV Pallisa district, Mr John Micheal Okurut, applauded government for restoring peace and stability.

“The NRM government has achieved a lot most importantly peace, security, and stability and as well infrastructure development,” he said.

The Pallisa Resident District Commissioner, Ms Collins Obedi, urged residents to desist from acts of blocking government projects under the pretext of demanding compensation before major works could begin.
