Jinja. Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye, said yesterday he is eager to face off with President Museveni in the second presidential debate slated for today.
Mr Museveni skipped the first debate that focused on domestic affairs on January 15, with his handlers saying he was busy with campaigns.
But there were indications by press time that the President could attend today’s debate.
Dr Besigye had threatened to skip the debate if Mr Museveni did not turn up but later showed up.

To address Museveni
Speaking at Buwenge in Jinja District yesterday, Dr Besigye said he will use the debate to interrogate Mr Museveni on “the wars he is fighting in other countries. Our children are dying there.”
During Mr Museveni’s reign, Uganda has participated in military operations in neighbouring DR Congo, Sudan and later South Sudan, and Somalia.
Dr Besigye, with five days to polling day, yesterday combed Jinja, with only parts of Kampala and Wakiso districts left to cover the whole country.

“I have been all over the country and I can tell you that the entire country is united in the demand for change,” Dr Besigye told supporters in Bugembe.
Dr Besigye reiterated his commitment to improving maternal health and education and called on his supporters to resist intimidation and bribery.
He repeated his pledges to increase salaries for primary and secondary school teachers and build “more and better equipped schools.”
Dr Besigye campaigned in Jinja East, Jinja West, Kagoma and Butembe constituencies and Jinja Town.
