Drama as Mubajje, Kayongo cross paths at Kadhi’s burial

The long-serving Masaka District Kadhi, Sheikh Huzailu Kiruta, was buried at his home in Kabigi, Butenga Sub-county in Bukomansimbi District on Wednesday.

However, there was drama when the Kibuli-based Supreme Mufti, Sheikh Zubair Kayongo, arrived at the home of the deceased Kadhi and organisers directed him to sit near the Old Kampala-based Mufti, Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje.

This caused discomfort to Sheikh Mubajje’s bodyguards who barred Sheikh Kayongo from sitting in the proximity of their boss.
Vice President Edward Ssekandi’s guards quickly intervened to defuse the tension when they offered Sheikh Kayongo a seat away from Sheikh Mubajje, but under the same VIP tent.

Sheikh Mubajje eulogised Kiruta as a good and hardworking man. He said because Kiruta was a good servant of Islam, he (Mubajje) delayed to accept his retirement until several years after he had reached retirement age.

Great role
The Nsangi Sub-county chairperson, Hajj Abud Kiyimba, who read Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura’s message, said Kiruta played a great role in spreading Islam and he condemned the on-going disputes among Muslims.
He said while other religions are busy engaging in development programmes, the Muslims were only fighting each other.

President Museveni donated Shs15 million towards the funeral expenses while the Vice President donated Shs2 million.
