EC vehicle used as taxi in Bundibugyo

BUNDIBUGYO: Police in Bundibugyo district are investigating a case in which the Electoral commission (EC) vehicle has allegedly been turned into a taxi to transport passengers.
The vehicle was on Monday spotted carrying passengers and dropping others at different stages along Fort Portal--Bundibugyo road.
The vehicle, a double cabin registration number UG 0792 B was being driven by a yet to be identified driver.
According to the District Police Commander, Mr Martin Tukahebwa, a police case has been opened at Bundibugyo Central Police station and statements from witnesses have been recorded.

“We have opened a case at Bundibugyo police station and we are carrying out investigations” said Tukahebwa.
When contacted, the district Chief administrative officer (CAO), Mr Stephen Olaya declined
to comment on the issue but referred our reporter to the district registrar.
The District Registrar, Mr Daniel Nayebare said on Tuesday that he was in Kampala with his deputy but had left the car parked at the office.

He vowed to investigate the matter and punish that the driver who misused government vehicle.
“I left the driver and my secretary in office, it’s unfortunate to hear this, we must investigate that because it’s against the law for a government vehicle to be used for transport, if it’s true, the
culprit will face the law” said Nayebare.
