The Kampala Metropolitan South Regional Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police Siraje Bakaleke has arrested eight police officers after finding them asleep at their various duty stations.

This was during a Friday night patrol that lasted till the morning hours of Saturday in different areas of Kampala and Entebbe.

Bakaleke started the patrol at Kibuye a Kampala suburb and later proceeded to Entebbe before returning to the city centre where he made impromptu visits to different police posts and found up to 8 police officers asleep and ordered for their arrest.

He further ordered them not return to duty at any police posts until inquiries into their ‘negligence od duty’ were complete and were to be arraigned before court on charges of neglect of duty.

Some of the officers arrested include Mr. Milton Opio attached to Wilson Road police post, Mr. Joseph Monday attached to Bus Park police post and Mr. Apollo Muhoozi attached to Nile coach among others.

ACP Bakileke further visited different nightspots along Entebbe road and interacted with boda boda riders and revelers on their relationship with police in the area further assuring them of police security.

He advised them to move in groups in the wake of the recent murders of women who are singled out by their killers during wee hours of the night.

Bakaleke vowed to continue his operations to comb out lazy police officers who neglect their duty and opt to sleep other than serving their role in protecting citizens and their property.
