Estranged couple to face off for MP seat

Mr John Bosco Mubiito and Ms Agnes Hope Birungi.

Buyende- Ms Agnes Hope Birungi, the estranged wife of Budiope West MP John Bosco Mubiito, has declared her intention to contest against him in 2016.

Addressing journalists in Kamuli last week, Ms Birungi who is also the proprietor of Mac and Mau schools in Buyende District, accused her former husband of failing to develop the constituency.

“He has failed to fully represent us. As a result, we are lagging behind, especially in the education and health sectors,” she said.

Ms Birungi also had no kind words for former area MP Paul Lubowa who has since declared his intention to once again contest for the same seat, saying he too had done nothing on the two occasions he represented the constituency.

“This is an era for the youth and my fathers who want to contest might face it rough with the young blood. It is better they quit the race and pave way for fresh ideas,” she said.

Mr Mubiito, when contacted, dismissed talk that the emergence of his estranged wife had left him unsettled.

“Many are aspiring to represent the constituency, which is their constitutional right and Ms Birungi is welcome to the political arena. I wish her the best of luck,” he said.
