In Summary
Felistus Namwihiri wins the party primaries to contest for Butaleja Woman MP seat.
Ms Felistus Namwihiri was yesterday declared the FDC flag bearer for the Butaleja District Woman MP by-election. Mr Richard Kudeeba, the FDC commissioner for electoral affairs declared Ms Namwihiri the flag bearer after she beat four rivals in Saturday’s hotly-contested primaries.
Ms Namwihiri garnered 54 votes against her closet rival Susan Baluka who registered 45 votes.
Other candidates are Ms Haddija Nayonga Nyenga (37 votes), Ms Juliet Nabwire (09 votes) and Rose Nawire (03 votes).
The party commissioner for electoral affairs, Mr Richard Kudeeba, nullified the poll results from one of the 12 polling stations over electoral malpractice.
He, however, said the nullification did not affect the final results.
Ms Namwihiri will tussle it out on February 11 with NRM’s Florence Nebanda Andiru, the sister of late Cerinah Nebanda.
Four other candidates, including three independent and one DP flag bearer are vying for the by-election.
