Fanfare, tight security ahead of Museveni, Besigye campaign rallies in Jinja

There’s fanfare on most streets of Jinja town as both the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) supporters march on loud music mobilising voters to go and attend the rallies of their respective candidates.


By midday, Main Street, Iganga Road, Oboja Road and Kinya, among others were filled with supporters.
President Museveni is expected in Jinja to campaign for the NRM candidate, Mr Nathan Igeme Nabeta at Masese/Walukuba Division while former presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye, Kyaddondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and other Opposition politicians are expected at Busoga Square to campaign for the FDC candidate, Paul Mwiru today.


There are six other candidates vying for Jinja East Municipality MP by-election and they are Paul Mugaya of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and Independent candidates; Faisal Mayemba, Francis Wakabi, Christine Monica Abuze, Richard Henry Nyanzi and Hatim Isabirye Mugendi.


Meanwhile, security has been tightened with more deployment of police officers at Museveni’s rally venues and other parts of Jinja town.

Riot police officers were also seen patrolling the streets.
