One person has been injured in a Monday morning fire which gutted Crest Foam, a mattress factory located in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb.
The injured person was rushed to Mulago Hospital for medical attention.
The details of the fire are still scanty but unverified reports from some of the factory employees also indicate that five of their colleagues perished in the fire which is said to have started at around 9:30 am. The unofficial reports further indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical shot circuit.
However, when asked, police could not confirm these reports or establish the cause of the fire.
Police's Fire Brigade was contacted in time but when they reached the scene, the fire was at a point of free burning.
According to the deputy chief fire officer, Mr Hassan Kihanda, they contained the fire from spreading to other areas. The most affected part was the factory store.
“We are still fighting the fire after which we shall launch investigations. As per now, I cannot tell the cause of the fire or its impact,” said Mr Kihanda.
The factory management is also not willing to speak to the media about the incident.
