Traffic along Mbarara-Ibanda highway was paralysed for several hours as police cleared the road following an accident in which a bus transferring refugees to Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement overturned killing five children and injuring 20 others.

SP Rogers Chebene, the DPC of Ibanda told Daily Monitor that the Thursday morning accident was as a result of reckless driving.
According to him, the bus driver failed negotiate the corner because he was speeding thereby losing control of the bus which then rammed into a pavement and overturned several times.
"This man was I think trying to overtake a boda boda cyclist but lost control of the bus which rammed into a pavement," SP Chebene said.

Eye witnesses, however, said the driver was trying to avoid knocking the boda boda rider when he lost control.

Those injured have been taken to Mbarara hospital for medical attention.
