Court has ordered a group of five people to defend themselves in connection with alleged conspiracy to murder a city businessman, Mr Solomon Chaplain Lui, and his family over wealth.

Makindye Chief Magistrate Esta Nambayo yesterday ruled that the five, including Mr Lui’s wife, Ms Maria Kevin Asiyo, and his junior brother, Mr Jack Enock Iyee, have a case to answer.

Others are: Ms Harriet Katusiime (former secretary to Mr Lui), city pastor George Opio and Ms Grace Epeduni, a sister to Ms Asiyo. “I find that the accused persons have a case to answer and they are hereby ordered to defend themselves,” ruled Ms Nambayo directing them to appear before the court on June 6.

The group is facing three charges of conspiracy to murder Mr Lui, his wife Hamidah Kobusingye and their child Solomon Jeremiah, a case they allegedly committed between December 2011 and March 2012.

However, the group that appeared before a fully packed courtroom denied the offence. Their lawyer asked court for two weeks to enable them prepare their defence.
