Police Commander, four other security officers remanded over murder

What you need to know:

  • Court heard that on June 23 at about 8 pm at Kibuku trading centre in Ntoroko District, the suspects killed Erasmus Irumba a resident of Nyakasenyi village and Richard Siet Kanyoro, a resident of Budiba.
  • The officers were arrested on June 24 and first detained at Fort Portal Police Station where they had since been as investigations into their case was being carried out by detectives from the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence (CIID) headquarters in Kampala.

Court has remanded five security officers accused of murdering two people in Ntoroko district.
The Ntoroko District Police Commander, Gerald Atuhaire and the District Internal Security Officer, Elidard Brian Babishanga were among the five charged with two counts of murder and three accounts of aggravated robbery.
Others include police officers Abdul Kyarimpa, Ivan Bakasaba and Irema Saulo Balimpa.

The suspects appeared on Friday before Vian Kwizera, the Fort Portal Grade I Magistrate.
Court heard that on June 23 at about 8 pm at Kibuku trading centre in Ntoroko District, the suspects killed Erasmus Irumba a resident of Nyakasenyi village and Richard Siet Kanyoro, a resident of Budiba.

It’s alleged that the suspects shot Irumba and Kanyoro at close using AK47 rifles.
According to prosecution, the suspects also stole Shs25 million and two phones belonging to the deceased.
Court didn't allow the suspects to take plea since it lacks jurisdiction to hear capital offences.

The suspects were remanded to Katojo Government Prison until July 27 when the case will come up for mention in court.
