The former Inspector General of Police, Boniface Eron Okoth Ogola has been nominated for elections as the overall chief of Morwa Sule clan, one of the predominant clans under the Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution.

Ogola was nominated during an exercise held by Commissioners of the Sectoral committee of the Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution chaired by Adrian Jag Owori at Nagongera town council headquarters ground on Thursday.

The elections that are scheduled for January 20, 2018 will involve members from the 24 sub clans scattered in Magola, Mulanda, Paya, Nagongera and Kisoko administrative units. During the nomination exercise, the Sectoral Committee Chairperson, Jag Adrian appealed to the candidates to limit the use of vulgar language, which may compromise the unit of the clan.

He said the commission will flag off the campaigns after harmonizing with the candidate's campaign programmes to avoid clashes. Shortly after his nomination, Okoth appealed to his clan mates to exercise maturity during the exercise, adding that above all unity and development should take precedence.

Okoth explained that he offered himself to serve Morwa Sule clan to rejuvenate unity, respect, love and teamwork that will result into transformation. Okoth served as IGP during the Obote II government. By the time of his appointment, Okoth had served as a career policeman since he joined the force in 1962.

He fled into exile after the fall of the Tito Okello government that took over from the Obote regime. He was on leave when the Tito Okello government collapsed and didn't return to work for fear of retribution from the National Resistance Army government because of his loyalty to the previous government. He spent 23 years in exile before he returned to the country.

He currently lives a quiet life with his family on his seven-acre farm at Maguria, on the Tororo-Mbale road in Mukujju sub-county, Tororo District.
