Convicted former permanent secretary in the Local government ministry John Muhanguzi Kashaka has been released on bail pending hearing and determination of his appeal.
Three Justices of the Appeal Court led by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma ordered the release of Mr Kashaka and directed him to deposit his land title as security and report every month to the registrar starting December 5 this year.
Other judges are Augustine Nshimye and Rubby Opio Aweri.
On July 17, the Anti-Corruption Court before Justice Lawrence Gidudu sentenced Mr Kashaka to ten years and ten days in prison after he was convicted for causing government a financial loss worth Shs4.2 billion in a botched procurement of 70,000 bicycles meant for village and parish chairpersons to facilitate their work for the 2011 election campaigns.
The decision by three judges reversed an earlier ruling by a single judge of the same court in which Kashaka was denied bail.
