KATAKWI- Four candidates battling for the Toroma County member of Parliament seat have been nominated.

The seat fell in March after the passing on of Cyrus Amodoi who died in an accident in March.

NRM flag bearer, Joseph Andrew Koluo, 49, was the first candidate to be nominated at 11 am on Tuesday followed by Mr Robert Imalingat, 25, an independent candidate who is a nephew to the late Amodoi.

Others nominated were Uganda Peoples Congress party flag bearer, Mr.Andrew Joseph Omiat and Mr Solomon Ossiya, an independent.

Mr Daniel Othieno, Katakwi District returning officer, who presided over the nominations said five more  candidates would be nominated on Wednesday.

Speaking to Daily Monitor shortly after his nomination, Mr Koluo promised to lobby for the recruitment of Local Defence Unit in the sub counties of Magoro, Ngariam and Palam.

"For many years, government has failed to provide security to these sub counties bordering Karamoja sub region,” he said.
