Police in Kampala are holding four people over the murder of a South Sudanese student of International University of East Africa located in Kasanga.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman, Mr Luke Owoyewogyire said the four were arrested on Thursday following the brutal killing of Lam Duot Deng Duot on June 23, 2018 in Katooke.

“They were linked to a murder case where a South Sudanese identified as Lam Duot Deng Duot, a student at International University of East Africa in Kasanga was allegedly assaulted and murdered by a group of waste collectors at Dubai Washing Bay,” Mr Owoyewogyire said on Monday.
According to police, Duot was accused of having tried to rob a breastfeeding mother and was suspected to have been involved in criminal activities in the area.
Police said Duot’s cousin had reported a disappearance case and was advised to check at Mulago mortuary where his body was positively identified on June 28.

“A team of officers from Kireka expedited the investigations around the scene of crime area and a number of arrests were made. Onlookers positively identified the people who were involved in the mob action. The witnesses told police of how the suspects, aged between 20 and 36, killed the young boy mercilessly even when he pleaded for his life. They revealed that the suspects threw verbal insults towards his nationality as they carried out the heinous act,” added Mr Owoyewogyire.
More arrests are expected to be made as the matter is still under investigation.

“It is unaccepted for citizens to break the law and all those involved should face the music. We appreciate the involvement of communities in assisting the police to fight crime but we are disappointed by those who take the law into their own hands‚” he said.
The four suspects are currently detained at Kira Division Police Station vide CRB 222/2018. Police say they will be arraigned in Kira Magistrate's Court this week and charged with murder contrary to section 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act.
