Four family members perish in Lira accident

Police in North Kyoga region have confirmed four people were killed in an accident that occurred in Lira District along Lira-Soroti highway. The accident happened on Wednesday night opposite Rima primary school.

Mr. David Ongom Mudong, the north Kyoga regional police spokesperson said the accident happened at around 9:30pm, claiming the lives of four people from the same family.

The four were traveling in a Rav4 car registration number UAJ119C when it collided with Isuzu Elf, registration number UAJ791U.
"It was a head-on collision but this happened after the driver of the Isuzu lost control of the vehicle, moved from his left side and collided with the Rav4 on the other side," Mr Ongom said.

Both vehicles were damaged beyond repair but police towed them to Lira Central Police Station for custody.

Mr Ongom identified the deceased as; Rev Johnson Enamu 45 years, his wife Alice Apolot 44 years and Alice Atim 87 years (Mother).

Sarah Angom, 25, a maid, survived the accident with grave injuries and is receiving medical attention at a yet to be identified health center.

Mr Ongom warned drivers to strictly observe road safety rules as they mind the lives of other people who are using the road.
"Drivers should drive carefully during these days because we are in a season where accidents tend to claim more lives," he said on Thursday morning.
