Four guards held over Orient Bank break-in

KAMPALA- Four security guards have been arrested after unknown people gained access into the main branch of Orient Bank on Kampala Road.
Mr Emilian Kayima, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said the bank was broken into on Sunday night.
He said the guards are attached two private security companies- Securex and Saracen.
The guards were arrested after informing police that the bank had been illegally accessed.
“The guards reported at our police post on Nkrumah Road that the bank had been broken into. We arrested them as the first suspects to help us in our investigations,” Mr Kayima said at CPS.

He said a team of investigators went to the bank and realised some doors had been broken while others had been tampered with.
Mr Kayima said the police were yet to establish what was missing from the bank since all the workers and managers were not available.
“We recovered keys abandoned inside. We talked to managers and we shall record statements from workers to establish whether some items were stolen,” he said.
Mr Kayima said they had contacted managers of the two security companies and agreed to conduct a joint investigation since they suspect collusion.

But a bank official said on Monday that what happened at the bank was an attempted break-in.

Meanwhile, there was panic at Kasangati Mosque on Monday after worshippers found a suspicious parcel inside the mosque.
Mr Kayima said police recovered the parcel.
“We checked the object and we realised it was an army uniform. We are trying to establish the owner of the parcel and the intentions of leaving it inside the mosque,” Mr Kayima said.
