At least four people have been injured in an accident that happened at the police’s Fika Salama check point at Kampiringisa in Kamengo Sub-county, Mpigi District along the Kampala – Masaka Highway.
Ms Yvonne Kyomuhendo, the Officer in Charge of Kamengo Police Station, said the accident happened at about 7:30pm on Sunday when a speeding Fuso truck rammed into three stationary vehicles whose drivers were waiting for traffic police officers’ clearance.

The truck registration number UAW 199P knocked a small car, Spacio model registration number UAQ 179A from behind, then rolled to other two vehicles from the opposite direction; a Canter number UAV 861F and Toyota Hiace Super Custom number UAQ 267S.
“Luckily, the accident was not fatal but there were some few people who got injuries. However, the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident took off immediately but we are hunting for him. He will be charged with reckless driving, injuring people and causing an accident,” Ms Kyomuhendo told this reporter in an interview on Monday morning.

The injured were taken to Mpigi Health Center IV to receive treatment and the wreckage of the vehicles towed to Kamengo Police Station for custody as investigations continue.
“Drivers should respect other road users and let them follow traffic rules and guidelines to avoid road carnage. We shall not hesitate to punish all the culprits because we want to ensure safety on all roads and keep lives of our people in 2018,” Ms Kyomuhendo added.
