Security. The move is to curb crime in the area.

LWENGO. Authorities in Lwengo District have issued strict rules for operators of bars and gambling centres in the district.
According to the new rules, all bars in the district must open at 5pm after people are done with the day’s work and close at 10pm during week days.
The new measures were issued during a security meeting convened at Ndeeba Trading Centre in Ndagwe Sub-county in Lwengo early this week.
The meeting was convened by police and local authorities after the Senior Presidential Advisor on Land matters, Ms Sarah Nkonge Muwonge, also a resident of the area, called for security intervention following an increase in the rate of crime.
Police community liaison officer for southern region Abdul Majid Tulibagenyi said the move is aimed at checking the increasing crime rate in the district attributed to idlers and lawbreakers who leave bars and gambling places in the wee hours of the morning. Mr Tulibagenyi said drinking joints will be allowed to open at 2pm at weekends, while pool table businesses will operate from 5pm and all will be closed by 10pm.
He said police will be conducting regular patrols from 11pm to ensure adherence to the new measures. He said those found open after 11pm will be closed.
“The new measures on operation of bars and pool tables have been brought for security reasons. Our investigations have revealed that most of the bad people hide in those bars during day and terrorise people at night,” he said.
