Gen Otafiire: Kayihura and Tumukunde need to sort themselves

Justice Minister, Maj Gen (rtd) Kahinda Otafiire has urged Security Minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura to “sort out” their differences and not let them spill into the open.
Gen Kayihura and Lt Gen Tumukunde have had a frosty relationship and their publicly expressed differences of opinions over work methods has also caught the attention of the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, President Museveni.
Speaking to journalists last week in Luweero, President Museveni, broke his silence over the simmering problem of infighting among his security principals, saying: “It’s a big [problem] which will be sorted out.”
Although Mr Museveni did not mention names, Gen Kayihura and Lt Gen Tumukunde have not been shy to publicly criticise each other.
Maj Gen (rtd) Otafiire on Wednesday afternoon also spoke out about the bickering between Lt Gen Tumukunde and Gen Kayihura, saying the two need to iron out their differences before its gets out of hand.
“I hear some bit of fraternal quarrel between Lt Gen Tumukunde and Gen Kayihura. Some individuals have difference and unfortunately they put them in the open, “Maj Gen Otafiire said.
He added: “[They] have differences like I used to have differences with my brother Amama Mbabazi but for us we were civilised. We never put it in the open. We used to have a lot of differences but we were civilised. If they have issues, let them sit down and sort them out as old comrades.”

Maj Gen (rtd) Otafiire was this afternoon meeting Parliament’s Human Rights Committee to respond to queries regarding congestion in prisons, the progress of the proposed Constitution Review Commission
(CRC) and the general human rights situation in the country.
On congestion in prisons, Maj Gen(rtd) Otafiire said the long-term solution would be to relocate Luzira Prison.
The proposed Constitution Review Commission (CRC) will be composed of 12 members with three women but the minister did not divulge details as the names are currently pending Cabinet approval.
