KAMPALA. Former coordinator of intelligence services, Gen David Sejusa, risks disciplinary action if he does not stop making political utterances, the army spokesperson, Lt Col Paddy Ankunda, has said.
Speaking on the sidelines of a decorating ceremony of two army officers: Maj Gen James Mugira and Maj Gen Nakibus Lakara yesterday, the army spokesperson said Gen Sejusa has ignored warnings against his engagement in partisan politics, well aware of his current position as a serving army officer.
“He is breaking the law. He must stop. We are assessing the situation and appropriate action will be taken,” Lt Col Ankunda added.
The army held a pipping ceremony for Major Generals Mugira and Lakara at the UPDF headquarters in Mbuya. The two officers were both elevated from the rank of Brigadier to Major General.
Mr Ankunda said the army will seek guidance from the Commander-in-Chief (President Museveni) on the next course of action against Gen Sejusa. On Tuesday, Gen Sejusa held a meeting with Democratic Party leaders and urged them to boycott the forthcoming 2016 polls, if the electoral reforms are not implemented.
Maj Gen Mugira remains the managing director of Luweero Industries while Maj Gen Lakara, who has been the 3rd Division commander, is now deputy contingent commander of the African Union Mission in Somalia.

Sejusa’s woes

Following his return from exile in December last year, Gen David Sejusa has been pushing the government to allow him retire from the army, citing his intention to join active politics. But his request has not been approved yet with the army, citing various issues that need to be considered.
