Police in Otuke District have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly killing her father.
It’s reported the suspect now in custody at Otuke Central Police Station accidentally hit her father on the head with a piece of wood killing him instantly. The incident happened as the suspect attempted to intervene in a fight between her parents.

Otuke District police commander, Mr Edson Turyaryomwe identified the deceased as Moses Awio, 44.
“The suspect will be produced in court as soon as investigations are complete,” Mr Turyaryomwe said on Tuesday.
In 1993, the UN declaration on the elimination of violence against women identified domestic violence as one of three contexts in which violence against women occurs.

World Health Organisation (WHO) states that globally, about 38% of murders of women are committed by an intimate partner.
In Lango Sub-region, domestic violence appears to have overwhelmed local authorities, with men, this time, becoming the main victims.

For instance, in August 2016, a 30-year-old woman handed herself over to police at Lira Central Police Station after killing her 37-year-old husband over sesame in Barr Sub-county.
On February 15, 2018, a 40-year-old woman was held at Dokolo Central Police Station for allegedly killing her husband following domestic brawl.
The suspect allegedly stabbed her husband Patrick Okwanya, at Amari village, Adyeny parish, Okungudul Sub-county. Police say Okwanya died at Dokolo health centre IV where he had been admitted.
Around that same period, the High Court in Lira sentenced a woman to 21 years in prison for killing her husband.
In Otuke, at least three cases of domestic violence are recorded at Otuke Central Police Station every week. The causes include, among others, poverty, and alcoholism among men in the community.
Mr Turyaryomw said the police have embarked on community policing in an attempt to reduce the occurrence.
“We shall soon begin arresting people who start drinking in the morning without doing any productive work,” he said.
