Kaliro. Former prime minister Amama Mbabazi has said President Museveni is a good leader “but when you are a good leader, you don’t die in power”.
“President Museveni is good leader but a very good leader must leave leadership and not die in power. Time has come for that leadership change and he must go in peace,” Mr Mbabazi said.
The Kinkiizi West MP, who declared a presidential bid last month, was addressing youth leaders at Kaliro Country Resort yesterday.
Earlier, he had attended Mass at St Gonzaga Gonza Church in Kaliro District during festivities to mark St Gonzaga Gonza day.
During a fundraising drive he bought a goat at Shs5 million and donated it to Kampala Archdiocese Youth Chaplain Joseph Luzindana.
Mr Mbabazi urged his supporters to remain firm despite what he termed as intimidation from the State.
He told the congregation that police have been deployed in Mbale District purposely because of his planned visit to consult with voters about his presidential bid.
He vowed that the deployment will not have any effect on his plan.
As former secretary general of the ruling NRM party spoke, police officers kept a watchful eye at the function. Two police patrol pick-up trucks followed Mr Mbabazi wherever he went.
Mr Paul Kalikwani, the NRM district youth chairperson and district coordinator of Mr Mbabazi’s team, said residents and the youth support his presidential bid.
“We are here in full support of you as youth,” Mr Kalikwani said.
