Government blames district land boards for illegal land titles

BULIISA. Government has shifted the blame of issuing illegal land titles to the district land boards, saying most illegalities surrounding illegal land titles originate from the district.
Recently, government cancelled more than 15 land titles including the one belonging to the king of Bunyoro Kitara, Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru, on grounds that they were acquired illegally.

This was revealed at a one- day dialogue on land governance organised in Buliisa District by Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (Acode) together with Civic Response on Environment and Development (Cred) in Buliisa District last Friday.
The spokesperson ministry of Lands and Urban Development, Mr Denis Obbo said people should not blame the Ministry for the irregularities in land acquisition because it is at the receiving end.
“All irregularities are generated from the area land committees and district land boards because the titling process begins at this level,” he said.

Causes

No inspection. Buliisa District chairman Simon Kinene said most of the land in Buliisa District has been titled without inspection and recommendation of area LCI chairmen.
