BULAMBULI- The Minister of Energy, Ms Irene Muloni, has commissioned Shs2.4 billion power projects in Sironko and Bulambuli districts expected to increase household income by establishing new businesses.
The government-funded project will cover Buyaga, Bunalwere and Bukalu sub-counties in Bulambuli and Buluganya and Kaduwa in Sironko.
Ms Muloni said a total of 8,000 government institutions in the districts are also expected to be connected to the power grid.
While commissioning 24km HV and 19km LV lines at Kaduwa and Buyaga sites respectively on Monday, Ms Muloni said the government was committed to extending power to rural areas to fulfill President Museveni’s manifesto during his presidential campaign in the eastern region.
I am delighted that we are commissioning this project as promised. Some people had started maligning the NRM government that they give empty promises,” Ms Muloni said.
The project will be undertaken by Dott Services and Utility Engineering Services based in Kampala under the rural electrification programme within one year.
Ms Muloni challenged the beneficiaries to maximally utilise the power in a proper way to avoid illegal connections. “This method of illegally tapping power on high voltage has resulted in the death of many people. Culprits shy away in fear because they know that what they have done is criminal and punishable by prosecution,” the minister said.
