His resolve and passion for accomplishing the East African [political] federation will, at this critical stage, be sorely missed.
The Minister of Information, Hon. Mary Karooro-Okurut, on behalf of the government of the Republic of Uganda, regrets to announce the death of Rt. Hon. Eriya Kategaya, the third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs. Rt. Hon. Kategaya died at 7.30pm on March 2, 2013, in Nairobi, where he has been hospitalised for a while.
The Rt. Hon. Kategaya is a historical member of the (ruling) National Resistance Movement, who for decades, worked selflessly for the liberation of Uganda. Under the NRM government, Rt. Hon. Kategaya served in various distinguished capacities in Cabinet and has in the process immensely contributed to the building of the country.
In recent years, while holding the docket of East African Community Affairs, he has been a key actor in the fast-tracking of [integration of] the East African Community. His resolve and passion for accomplishing the East African [political] federation will, at this critical stage, be sorely missed.
The government extends its deepest condolences to the family, relatives, friends and indeed the country at large upon the sad passing on of Rt. Hon. Kategaya. The government will, in due course, issue a detailed program with funeral arrangements for the late Rt. Hon. Eriya Kategaya. We pray that the Lord grants the soul of Rt. Hon. Kategaya a peaceful rest.
For God and my Country.
