KAMPALA- The central government will today officially hand over more land titles to Buganda kingdom.

The 82 land titles, according to the kingdom premier Charles Peter Mayiga are part of those that were confiscated by then central government when kingdoms were abolished 47 years ago.

The titles will be handed over to the kingdom officials by President Museveni at State House in Entebbe as fulfillment of the memorandum of understanding government inked with Mengo in 2013.

“I will be leading a delegation from Buganda tomorrow to State House in Entebbe to meet the President whom we expect to handover to us 82 land titles,” Katikkiro Mayiga told the Buganda Lukiiko (Parliament) yesterday.

Mid last year, President Museveni handed over the first batch of a total of 213 verified land titles to Buganda officials.

Mr Mayiga warned all those still occupying land that is part of the 213 land titles that were received in the first batch giving them three options; to either, lease, rent or vacate the land “as soon as possible.”

“So far most of the occupants on the said land and structures have vacated apart from the few local government administrators whom we also expected to leave very soon,” Mr Mayiga said.
