It was somber mood at Gulu University on Wednesday morning as students and school administrators mourned the death of one of their senior lecturers, Dr Thomas Okello Oyok.
Dr Oyok, a retired psychiatrist with Gulu Regional Referral Hospital, was a senior lecturer heading the department of mental health at Gulu University. He passed on at Lacor Hospital on Wednesday after a long illness. He retired from Gulu Referral Hospital in 2011 and was appointed a senior psychiatrist at Gulu University in the department of mental health in the same year.
The psychiatrist, is the third lecturer Gulu University has lost this year in just a span of one month.
Gulu University Vice Chancellor Jack Nyeko Penmogi commended the life and times of Mr Oyok, adding that his sudden death is a big blow for the institution.
“It’s unfortunate that in just one month, we have lost three of our good senior lecturers. There is a big gap in administration at the moment,” he said.
Prof Penmogi, added that Dr Oyok had been a hard working lecturer that never gave up in his department, it will take time for the university to cope with his death.
Mr David Kitara, an associate professor at Gulu University said the region will miss the dedicated work of Dr Oyok, who had served the region diligently.

University Don in the department of Business as he was going back to his home. Another lecturer of Sports Science Mr Nyeko Ballam, also passed on earlier last month after being involved in motor accident.
