Kasese

Nine head teachers in Kasese district are under investigation over alleged misappropriation of Universal Primary Education (UPE) funds.

The district principal education officer, Mr George Mayinja, said school heads failed to account for the grants which the schools received from the central government in the 2012/2013 financial year.

Mr Mayinja said the head teachers who are under investigations have not been posted ahead of the opening of the first term. Their deputies have been assigned to act as head teachers.
He, however, declined to reveal their particulars on grounds that he did not want to jeopardise the investigations.

Not posted
“Nine head teachers have not been posted as we continue to investigate allegations of misappropriation of UPE funds. An audit must first be carried out before their fate is decided,” he said without specifying the amounts of money the school heads are accused of failing to account for.

Head teachers of Bibwe Primary School in Muhokya Sub-county and St Matia Mulumba Primary School in Nyakiyumbu Sub-county were recently in the spotlight over suspicion of failure to fully account for UPE funds.
