The Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, Dr Deogratius Byabazaire, has died.
The diocesan vicar, Msgr Mathias Nyakatuura, said the bishop died of diabetes and high blood pressure.
The bishop died on Saturday morning, a day after returning to Uganda from India where he has been undergoing treatment.
He had undergone treatment in various countries in the past five years. Due to persistent health challenges he was undergoing, the pope appointed the auxiliary Bishop of Mbarara Diocese Lambert Bainomugisha as the apostolic administrator of Hoima Catholic Diocese.
He has been performing duties of the bishop for the past three years.
Dr Byabazaire was born in 1941 in Masindi District. He is a brother of Public Service minister Henry Kajura.
He was ordained Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese in 1990. Dr Byabazaire was a priest for 45 years.
