Hoima to oil firms: Stop sidelining us

In Summary

The council accused the companies of failing to update it on their activities.

Hoima District officials have expressed displeasure at some oil activities taking place in the district without their consent.

At a recent dialogue with Tullow Oil and CNOOC, the two oil firms operating in the district, officials wondered why oil firms were implementing various activities without involving relevant district offices.

“The physical developments in oil should be notified to the district physical planning committee for approval as required by law. Unfortunately, you have not been informing us,” the physical planner, Mr Robert Mwanguhya, said.

The council accused the companies of failing to update it on their activities.

“The photographs you have shown are new to us. The council has never been briefed about what you are doing,” the district speaker Mr Isingoma Kitwe said.

However, Tullow Oil’s external relations officer Didas Muhumuza said information-sharing has been on-going with Buliisa District and would now spread to Hoima.
